The Return to Troppo Donut

Hey, fellow Ibarakians!
Have you had a chance to visit Troppo Donut in Tsukuba yet? This Italian-style bakery specializes in delicious donuts, French toast, biscotti, and more! I've visited Troppo Donut quite a few times and even wrote about it on the old Ibaraki Eats blog.
Since then, Troppo has moved to a new location and expanded its menu with a variety of new donuts. So, it was time for a return visit to Troppo Donut!

Troppo Donut

Troppo Donut is located in the Gakuennomori area of Tsukuba, inside the Tocco Cherry building near Costco. If you're driving, there are a few parking spaces in front of the donut shop, as well as additional spaces behind the Tocco Cherry building.
The new location is much larger than the old one, although it is still a takeout-only shop. I actually stopped by a few times last week to pick up some well-deserved donuts for Mrs. Ibaraki Eats after she had a particularly tough week at work.
After parking my car in front of Troppo Donut, I headed inside.

Inside

When I walked inside, I was greeted by biscotti and a variety of baked sweets to my left, a display filled with amazing-looking donuts straight ahead, and cream-filled donuts and cannolis in a small refrigerated display case to my right. The staff asked what I would like, carefully grabbed my selections with tongs, and packed everything up to go.
I ended up picking out a few refrigerated sweets along with a box full of tempting donuts. That evening, when Mrs. Ibaraki Eats came home from work, we enjoyed dinner together. Then came the best part, it was donut time for dessert!

Cannoli

Before we got to the donuts, Mrs. Ibaraki Eats wanted to try the cannoli first. I wrote about Troppo Donut's cannoli before, and I'm happy to say it hasn't changed one bit. It is still a delicious sweet treat.
When you take a bite, you're first greeted by the crispy, crumbly shell, followed by smooth ricotta cream and little bursts of chocolate chips. The combination of textures and flavors makes for a wonderful dessert and was the perfect way to start our sweet feast.
Once we finished our cannoli, it was finally time to dig into the donuts.

Strawberry Donut

After enjoying the amazing cannoli, the first donut we tried was the strawberry donut. Mrs. Ibaraki Eats absolutely loved this one. The strawberry frosting was delicious. It had a firm coating that gave a satisfying bite before melting in your mouth into little bursts of sweet strawberry flavor.
The donut itself was just as impressive. It was soft, fluffy, and tasted incredibly fresh. Our first donut was definitely a winner, and we couldn't wait to move on to the next one.

Lemon Cheese Donut

Our second donut was the lemon cheese donut. From the very first bite, I was greeted with a bright burst of lemon flavor, followed by a rich and creamy cheese filling hidden inside the donut. The dusting of powdered sugar was the perfect finishing touch, adding just the right amount of sweetness to balance the tangy lemon.
Overall, this was another delicious donut. I would definitely order the lemon cheese donut again.

Brûlée

Are you a fan of crème brûlée? Mrs. Ibaraki Eats certainly is. So, when I spotted a brûlée donut in the display case, there was no way I wasn't taking one home.
The brûlée donut was incredible. The top was coated with a beautifully caramelized sugar crust that cracked with each bite, just like a traditional crème brûlée. Inside, the donut was filled with a smooth, creamy filling that perfectly complemented the crunchy topping. It was rich, sweet, and absolutely delicious.
This donut was another big winner for Mrs. Ibaraki Eats and quickly became one of her favorites of the evening. I really enjoyed it as well, but the next donut completely blew my mind.

Cherry Donut

Our last donut of the evening was the cherry donut. This one not only had a crisp cherry-flavored glaze, but it also had a real cherry on top. Mrs. Ibaraki Eats loves cherries, so I knew this donut would be right up her alley. To this day, she still wishes Costco would bring back its cherry ice cream.
I let her take the first bite, and she absolutely loved it. The cherry flavor was wonderful, sweet but not overpowering, and the real cherry in the middle made it even better. Like all of the other donuts we had that evening, the dough was soft, fluffy, and tasted incredibly fresh. This ended up being my favorite donut of the night, and I would happily order it again.
Unfortunately, it may have only been a limited-time offering. I stopped by Troppo Donut again a few days later, but the cherry donut was nowhere to be found in the display case.

By the time we finished our last donut, we were beyond full. Mrs. Ibaraki Eats was thrilled and enjoyed every donut and cannoli I brought home. I felt the same way, and I can't wait to make another trip to Troppo Donut.
