The Return to Mosh
I finally was able to go back to a great place in Mito.

Happy Fourth of July, my fellow Americans!
Nothing beats an awesome Fourth of July like BBQ, fireworks, and possibly a day at the beach. Since we live in Japan, we can't do any of that. It is a regular Friday and we all have to go to work. The Ibaraki Eats Duo wanted to celebrate the Fourth of July by doing something American. What can be more American than a tasty bag of Fritos? Not just any old plain bag of Fritos, but a bag of Fritos full of pulled pork, lime, and delicious sauce. There is only one place in Ibaraki that dishes out this amazing treat. That place is Mito's own Mosh Under the Diners Stand.

Mosh Under the Diners Stand
Mosh Under the Diners Stand is located in the Kasaharacho area of Mito. It is located in a neighborhood area, so I highly recommend coming by car or bike.
I am not going to get into the inside of Mosh or its menu because this is not the first time I've written about Mosh. The first time I wrote about Mosh was back in 2021! If you would like to check out that post, here is the link;

So why am I writing about Mosh again? I have been to Mosh a few times since my first post and have met up with them at different events. Mosh always makes delicious burgers and tacos. Even though Mosh is well known for their burgers and American cuisine, they are doing something new that no other place in Ibaraki is doing. In fact, I do not think many other places in Japan are doing this. Let me explain.
Mrs. Ibaraki Eats saw something on YouTube that blew her mind. She saw an American food truck take a huge bag of Doritos, cut a hole in it, and then the food truck proceeded to add chili, cheese, and other sorts of delicious ingredients into the bag. This is called a walking taco or a Frito pie in America. Mrs. Ibaraki Eats was captivated by this video and wanted to try doing that. Then she heard that Mosh started doing walking tacos and vowed that we would be visiting Mosh soon. A few weeks later, it was time to try Mosh's walking taco.

Cookies and Cream Shake
Did I ever mention that Mosh makes great milkshakes? Well, they do, and Mrs. Ibaraki Eats loves them. Before we got into our walking taco, my wife ordered a milkshake to go with her meal. One of the most American things you can do. She ordered the cookies and cream milkshake, and when it came to our table, it looked fantastic. My wife grabbed a spoonful of cream and ice cream and looked like she was in a blissful state of ice cream serenity. She was very happy. I got to try some, and I have to say that Mosh's milkshakes do not disappoint. They are a creamy delight that will go well with any burger meal.

Walking Taco Fritos
For your choice of a walking taco, the chips that are available are Doritos, Regular Lays, Lays Sour Cream and Onion, Fritos BBQ Flavor, and Chetos. For what goes inside the chips, you can order chili or pulled pork. Unfortunately, the Doritos were all sold out when we arrived at Mosh. My wife had never tried Fritos before, so we went with those and ordered the pulled pork. After a little while, our walking taco arrived.
We were both amazed. We had never seen a real-life walking taco. We were given forks and told that we could use them, or if we wanted to get our hands dirty, that was OK too. No dirty hands today. My wife grabbed a fork and dug in. My wife got a fork full of pulled pork, lettuce, lime (that we squeezed in), and a few Fritos. She let me have the first try, and I automatically loved it. It was so delicious and so American. I am not sure if I hallucinated this, but I think I saw an American bald eagle saluting me while I had this delicious treat. My wife then tried it and gave it a thumbs up. Actually, I think she loved it more than I did. She was amazed by two things: how good Fritos were, and how well the Fritos went with the pulled pork. I just loved how the pulled pork brought this junk food from a regular snack to a gourmet snack. After we finished our walking taco, my wife looked at me with a serious face and said, "I want to try the rest of the chips." We haven't tried the rest of the chips yet, but two down, three to go.

Tacos
We visited Mosh on a Tuesday. This is a burger and taco place, and you know what Tuesday means: Taco Tuesday! Mosh does something awesome on Taco Tuesday. All their tacos are 50% off. We decided to order some tacos and have them with our walking taco. Mosh does Tex-Mex style tacos. They come in a big tortilla with lime, lettuce, tomatoes, taco meat, and a little bit of cheese. We bit into our respective tacos and enjoyed our Taco Tuesday. The taco meat was excellent. Mosh has an array of hot sauces you can put on your taco for the spicy kick. A walking taco and a taco make for a great Taco Tuesday.

Spare Rib Burger
My wife and I also ordered a burger on top of our walking taco and regular tacos. We decided to try the new special dinner burger from Mosh, the spare rib burger. This was a cheeseburger with a huge piece of spare rib between the buns. My wife let me have the first bite, and I have to say, the rib meat with the beef patty and melted cheese was heavenly. It was a meat delight that I still think about, even while I write this post. My wife gave it a thumbs up. We were having a great time with the burger. One thing that you should know is, once you get to the middle of the spare rib, the huge bone gets in the way. This basically means that the spare rib burger is over, and that you need to take out the spare rib to have the rest of the burger. That is what we did. It wasn't a complete deal breaker with this burger. I took a bite of the spare rib and then a bite of the burger separately, and still got that intense meaty flavor. Sure, the burger loses its shape a bit and its wow factor, but it is still a tasty burger.

Walking Taco Lays Sour Cream and Onion
Once we finished our burger, tacos, and walking tacos, it was time to go. I was about to get up and head for the cash register until my wife stopped me. She looked at me and said, "I want another walking taco for the road home." I was in shock. I thought she was beyond full and was ready to call it a night, but Mrs. Ibaraki Eats wanted a walking taco and she was going to get a walking taco. She ordered the Lays Sour Cream and Onion walking taco, but instead of pulled pork, she wanted chili sauce. Once we got it, we thanked the owner, paid for our meal, and got in our car with our walking taco. I was driving so my wife handed me a few chips with chili sauce on them. Since these were Lays, it was easier to grab with our hands. We did have a fork for our chili. After trying the chili sauce with Lays, I told my wife she made the right choice. The sour cream and onion flavor wth chili was perfect. This was an amazing snack for our trip home. Even though we were full from the tacos and burger, this walking taco really hit the spot.
Mosh is an amazing American cuisine restaurant and I urge all Americans and non-Americans, to give this place a try. Have no plans for the Fourth of July? Why not have a huge burger and craft beer at Mosh? It is what our four fathers would have wanted. While you are there, give the walking tacos a try as well. The owner told me that he will have a stand at the Mito Komon Festival this summer and will likely have walking tacos on the menu. So you can have a Doritos walking taco while enjoying the matsuri! I just might do that myself.
So if you are around Mito and are looking for some tacos and burgers, why not give Mosh Under the Diners Stand a chance? Who knows? You might see us there. My wife ordering the rest of the chips on the walking tacos menu and finally proclaming that we have tried them all.
Enjoy!
