This is the first time I do a mini post on Ibaraki Eats. The mini posts won't be released weekly or anything like that. I'll write a mini post when something interesting happen to us or when the Ibaraki Eats Duo tries a new weird dish. Today's mini post is a new weird dish post.

Domino's Volcano Pizza
Domino's has recently released a new pizza called the Volcano Pizza. It is a regular pizza except that it has melted cheese dipping sauce in the middle of the pizza to dip your slice of pizza in. More cheese is always a great idea in my opinion, but is this melted dipping cheese a new delicious treat or something to ignore?
We ordered the volcano pizza last Thursday night. We didn't get delivery. We picked up our pizza because it was cheaper. The volcano pizza isn't exactly a normal affordable pizza. I believe if you order it for delivery, the Domino's coupons won't work for it. But if you pick up the pizza, it is around 50% off. The regular price for this pizza is close to 5,000 yen, which makes it quite an expensive pie. But picking it up made it close to 3,000 yen. Still expensive, but doable.
We opened our pizza box when we got back home and were surprised to see that the pizza looked exactly as advertised. We also got a NY style size pizza which made the slices almost as big as an American pizza slice.

Dipping Time
My wife let me have the honors. First let me say, getting a slice from this pie is near next to doing surgery. I ripped my slice in half the first time. Reason being is the dough is molded to go inside and fit around the plastic cup that brings the sauce. It is awesome because if you take out your slice just right, you can get a lot of cheese sauce on your slice. But then again, I broke off more than one slice in half which annoyed me.
I thought the cheese sauce would most likely taste something like El Paso's nacho cheese dip that you can buy in Kaldi. I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually a good cheese dip. Not great mind you, but good. It went well with the other slices of pizza. What surprised me even more was there was enough dip for all the slices. It was a pretty good pizza and cheese sauce.
My wife and I enjoyed the volcano pizza from Domino's. Would we order it again? We aren't sure. It was a fun and tasty pizza but it is quite pricey. I recommend trying it once and if you like it, make this pizza a special occasion pizza. You can order the cheese dipping sauce by itself if you don't want all that dough and pizza breaking off nonsense. Otherwise, not bad Domino's.
I hope our next mini post can be about the Pizza Hut ramen pizza.
