Mini Post: Excellent Coffee on Wednesdays

Hello fellow Ibarakians!
It has been a while since I have done a mini post! I am currently on summer break, so I decided to grab some coffee. One of my favorite coffee spots in Tsukuba is L'hirondelle. L'hirondelle makes incredible coffee, and they also make what I believe are the best cinnamon rolls in Ibaraki. I truly stand by that statement! If you ever get the chance to visit, make sure you try one of their cinnamon rolls.
L'hirondelle is normally closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. However, on Wednesdays, the shop is open with a slightly different setup. Instead of the lovely couple who normally run L'hirondelle, Mr. Kano takes over, and he makes some great coffee as well!

Kano Coffee

As I mentioned before, Kano Coffee can be found on Wednesdays at L'hirondelle in the Amakubo area of Tsukuba City.
I just came back from Kano Coffee, and at first, it felt a little strange not seeing the regular owner of L'hirondelle behind the counter. I walked up to the counter, where Kano-san was now working, and took a look at the menu.
The menu is simple, with no food or sweets available—just coffee. You can choose from hand-dripped coffee, espresso, an Americano, a café latte, and a specialty drink. This month’s specialty drink is the Salty Mont Blanc. That is what I ordered, and I was excited to give it a try!

Salty Mont Blanc

Once my Salty Mont Blanc arrived at my table, I was in awe of how amazing it looked. It was a cold, hand-dripped coffee topped with cream, mikan (Japanese mandarin orange) shavings, and, of course, salt. I took one sip and instantly loved it.
So many different flavors were dancing around my mouth that my taste buds practically got whiplash! First, I was hit with the light and easy-to-drink hand-dripped coffee. Then came the rich and delicious cream, followed by the bright citrus flavor of the mikan and a little salty kick. I grabbed my spoon and mixed everything together, and the Salty Mont Blanc somehow tasted even better.
The drink actually reminded me of an Irish coffee, but without the whiskey. All of these flavors worked so well together that I almost ordered another Salty Mont Blanc. Unfortunately, I had to continue with my errands.

I thanked Kano-san for the fantastic drink and chatted with him for a little while. I really hope that one day he can open a coffee shop of his own. If this drink is any indication, I think he would do a fantastic job!
Unfortunately, Kano Coffee is almost finished for today. They are open from 11:00 to 18:00, so if you hurry, you might still make it in time to try this amazing coffee. If not, there is always next Wednesday. But don't wait too long! Kano-san may change the menu next month, and this drink could disappear.

So, if it is Wednesday and you are in the mood for an incredible cup of coffee, why not head over to L'hirondelle and try Kano Coffee? Who knows? You might even see me there, enjoying another Salty Mont Blanc and talking to Kano-san about coffee.
