Matsuri's and Fireworks In Ibaraki 2026

Summer is here and with that comes the 2026 summer matsuri season!
I usually write about restaurants and food, but I thought this week I would give you a nice post on all the festivals happening in Ibaraki this summer.
There are quite a lot of matsuris and firework events happening around Ibaraki. Here are a few events happening this year.

Ushiku Kappa Matsuri
Where: Hanamizuki Dori
When: August 1st-2nd
Enjoy the dance parade and meet Ushiku's famous kappa while they roam the streets of Ushiku.

Mito Kommon Festival
Where: Route 50
When: August 1st-2nd
The biggest festival in Mito has music, amazing food, and a huge parade!

Tsuchiura Kirara Matsuri
Where: Tsuchiura Station
When: August 1st-2nd
A huge dance parade on Saturday and beautifully decorated parade floats going around the city on Sunday.

Hitachinaka Matsuri
Where: Omotemachi Dori
When: August 23rd
A huge party on Omotemachi street full of delicious food and parade floats. I'll be pulling one of those floats so come say hello.

Matsuri Tsukuba
Where: Tsukuba Station
When: August 22nd-23rd
Check out this amazing festivals filled with huge parade floats and nebuta. Plus alot of amazing food for local vendors.

Don't forgot about all the firework festivals and tournaments lighting up the night sky this summer! Here are a few you might be interested in.

Mito Kirakuen Fireworks Display
Where: Mito Senba Lake
When: July 25th
This Saturday, Mito Senba Lake will have thousands of fireworks lighting up the night sky. Grab a spot by the lake and watch the show!

Ajigaura Beach's Fireworks Display
Where: Ajigaura Beach
When: July 25th, August 1st, 15th, 29th
Ajigaura Beach will be having a fireworks display throughtout July and August. After a nice swim, grab a spot on the sand and watch the firworks.

Hitachi Port Fireworks Festivals
Where: Kawarago Beach
When: July 26th
After a day at the beach, look towards the port and check out the many fireworks that will be lighting up the Hitachi night sky.

Tone River Fireworks Festival
Where: Toride Green Athletic Park
When: August 8th
I checked out this fireworks festival last year and I was extrmemly impressed by it. I highly recommend grabbing a spot at the park and checking out this spectacular display of fireworks in Toride.

Hitachinaka Fireworks Festival
Where: Launch Point at Katsuta Self Defense Force Base
When: August 22nd
Grab some delicious food truck dinner and take a seat at one of the many parks near Katsuta Station and watch the fireworks exploding around Hitachinaka.
