Hello everyone!
It's finally starting to cool down a bit. The sweltering hot weather is somewhat gone. That means we can go out without sweating every three seconds. I am sure some of you are emerging from your air conditioned rooms and wondering where to go grab a bite for lunch. May I suggest a healthy delicious option? This place not only does farm to table dishes, but they also have a nice little restaurant that is great to relax in. Today, I will be talking about Tsukuba's very own, Hare Gohan.

Hare Gohan

Hare Gohan is a small farm to table restaurant located in the Gaukuennomori area of Tsukuba. It is close by the trendy furniture store Himitsukichi and right across from the Tsukuba Ham Market.
I had always wanted to go to Hare Gohan. I have met the owner a number of times at different events like the Village Market Tsukuba. Each time I ordered from Hare Gohan, I either had their sausage or their keema curry. Both are excellent. I always told the owner that one day I was going to go to their restaurant. Finally, on a hot Tuesday afternoon, the Ibaraki Eats Duo was able to do just that. My wife and I parked our car at the big parking area around Hare Gohan and Tsukuba Ham, and headed inside.

Inside

When we walked in, we were greeted by the owner, a staff member, and a small but relaxing atmosphere. The inside of the restaurant is all counter seating. It is quite small. It can maybe fit up to six people. There is table seating in the small patio area of the restaurant. Since it was a pretty hot day when we visited, we decided to grab a counter seat and check out the menu under the AC. One thing I noticed was that there were a lot of liquor bottles around the restaurant. This place might be quite the party during dinner time.

The Menu

We went to Hare Gohan during lunch time, so we were given a lunch menu. Sorry, my non-Japanese readers, this menu is only in Japanese.
The menu has 5 different dishes for lunch: the Rurekate Set of the Day (which is only done during the weekend), the ajillo plate, the omelet and rice plate (limited quantity), the curry plate, and the ginger pork plate. All plates come with a drink of either hot or cold tea, or fresh organic juice.
The menu also has a cake set section with chocolate cake or cheesecake.
If you would like more rice with your lunch, you can upgrade to 200g of rice for just 100 yen.
My wife and I looked over them menu and decided we were getting an omelet and curry.

Curry Plate

This was my order, the curry plate. The curry plate brought curry and rice, fresh vegetables, and a small scoop of potato salad. Instead of going for the curry first, I went for the potato salad. Let me say, Hare Gohan's potato salad is excellent. It was so soft and creamy, and it had just the right amount of spices to not be overly salty but not taste like I was just eating a potato. An excellent potato salad with equally excellent vegetables. All the vegetables tasted very fresh. There was also a light kind of ginger dressing on the vegetables that was great.
After trying the vegetables and potato salad, I dug my spoon into my curry and rice and gave that a try. The curry tasted like keema curry and it had quite a lot of mince meat in it. The curry seemed to be baked into the rice which made it very satisfying to dip my spoon into the curry and come back with melted gooey cheese, curry, and a few pieces of a fried egg. After breaking the yolk, it was great to see all that runny egg yolk blend with the rice and curry. The curry had a little bit of spiciness to it at the beginning, but once I got used to it, it was smooth sailing to flavor town. My wife gave the curry a try and she gave it her signature thumbs up. She liked the fact that the curry was baked into the rice so the curry flavor was really into every grain of rice.
A very nice curry plate Hare Gohan!

Omelet Plate

This was Mrs. Ibaraki Eats' order. Her omelet plate brought all the same vegetables and potato salad that my curry plate brought. My wife, being the ever so amazing wife, grabbed a spoonful of omelet and rice and let me have the first bite. I loved my curry plate, but this omelet blew me away. It was so soft and fluffy, and the rice had small pieces of ham with delicious vegetables. I wasn't exactly sure what the sauce was, but I believe it was a creamy like parmesan cheese sauce that was amazing with the omelet. This might be the fluffiest and most flavorful omelet I have had in a while. Every spoonful of rice and omelet was a masterpiece, crafted by the amazing owner of Hare Gohan. Mrs. Ibaraki Eats loved her omelet, but I suspect she loved my curry plate even more. I hope that I can have this omelet plate again soon. I just have to beat everyone there before it runs out.

After we finished our meal, we felt full but we also felt as light as a feather. All that healthy organic food didn't leave us feeling heavy or tired. It was an amazing lunch that I hope I can experience again soon. We thanked the owner of Hare Gohan for a great meal and headed out to finish our errands for the day.
Hare Gohan is a great place to have a healthy and delicious lunch. Their farm to table dishes are fantastic. I hope to go back soon and hopefully get my hands on that omelet dish again.

So if you are around the neighborhood of Gaukuennomori and are looking for a delicious and healthy lunch, why not give Hare Gohan a chance? Who knows? You might see us there. Trying the ajillo dish and also enjoying the omelet plate.
Enjoy!
