Hello my fellow Ibarakians! Welcome to the new Ibaraki Eats!

We have moved. Ibaraki Eats has a domain name now! ibarakieats.com. Unfortunately , I can no longer post on WIX anymore so I moved Ibaraki Eats to this new website builder. Please bear with me as I am getting used to how this new website maker works.

I know I usually post on Fridays, but I wanted to do a small post for our new domain launch and to update one of my old posts. I also wanted to post this soon because this seafood event is over this Sunday. So without further ado, let me tell you about Kakibugyo.

Kakibugyo

Kaki, meaning oysters, and bugyo meaning magistrate, (I had to look that up. I think it is the mascot or something) is a fun and tasty way to get your fix of oysters. I posted about my experience of kakibugyo 2 years ago in 2022. I wrote about when I went there in 2019. During that time, kakibugyo had their tent open near Tsuchiura station. If you would like to read about my experience then, here is the link:

Kakibugyo went quiet for quite some time during the pandemic. Now, it is back! But not in Tsuchiura, in Tsukuba. Right by the entrance of Kasumi supermarket in IIAS mall. You can't miss the tent with the smoky smell of barbecued seafood.

Oyster Time!!

Inside the tent, there are a lot of tables with a small BBQ pit in the middle of the table. Before you sit down, grab a metal try and get to grabbing some oysters and other seafood.

There are a bunch of different oysters to choose from. My wife and I visited kakibugyo on a cold Monday night. She said, "I want oysters, a lot of oysters." So we got two buckets, (that's right, buckets) full of oysters. Then, we got another tray with more oysters, a weiner on a stick, squid on a stick, two scallops, and some fried oysters. Once we grabbed what we wanted, we went to the register, paid, and started BBQing.

Fried Kaki

First off, the fried oysters were great. Very crispy on the outside and nice and piping hot oyster meat on the inside. It was perfect. Didn't need any sauce at all. The weiner and squid on a stick was OK. The scallops were great, but let's get to the main event. The oysters.

Let's BBQ Some Oysters!

My wife was in heaven. We barbecued our oysters on each side for three minutes. The staff gives you a timer so you know when the three minutes on each side is up. My wife grabbed the oysters with some tongs, shoved the oyster opening knife in the opening of the oyster, and cracked them open with a look of satisfaction and determination. I was fascinated and a little terrified. We poured a little bit of soy sauce onto our open oysters and got to eating. It was fantastic. The oysters tasted so fresh and delicious. It felt like the ocean was right by IIAS and we were getting oysters delivered from that ocean right to our table. In reality, I believe the oysters are from Tohoku. But nevertheless, they were great. Cracking them open was so satisfying, and they were so full of flavor. It was heavenly. I believe we had around 35 oysters between the both of us. We were beyond full but it was so worth it.

Kakibugyo is a wonderful and tasty oyster experience. If you are interested in this oyster extravaganza, you only have until this Sunday, January 28th, to enjoy it. I highly recommend giving this fun seafood tent a try. It might be a bit expensive but oysters have never really been cheap.

So if you are shopping around IIAS Tsukuba and would like to treat yourself to some oysters for lunch or dinner, why not give Kakibugyo a chance. Remember, this Sunday is the last day to get your oyster craving satisfied. So don't miss it or else you will have to wait till next year.

Enjoy!
