Donuts are awesome, aren't they? In America, we usually have them for breakfast with a cup of coffee. In Japan, they are more of a sweet treat or dessert. In either case, donuts are tasty. What kind of donuts do you like? Do you like an old-fashioned donut or just a regular glazed donut? If you are a lover of cream filled donuts, then this is the post for you. Tsukuba has just opened a new donut shop that only does cream filled donuts, and this donut place is called Milk Do Dore Iku?

Milk Do Dore Iku?

Milk Do Dore Iku is not an original from Ibaraki. It is a Hokkaido donut chain. This is the first Milk Do that has opened in Ibaraki. Milk Do is located in the Gakuennomori area of Tsukuba. It is very close to the Tsukuba Costco. Drive past Tsukuba Costco and head to the Trial Supermarket in the area. Turn into the Trail Supermarket parking area and look for a small yellow container. There, you will see a roped area and the entrance to Milk Do.
When Milk Do first opened, you had to wait almost an hour for some donuts, and they would usually sell out. Since the craze for Milk Do has calmed down, it is easier to just walk in and grab some donuts. I went to Milk Do on a very hot and sunny Wednesday afternoon to try them out. I parked my car near the yellow container and headed inside.

Inside

The inside of Milk Do is very cramped. There is a small kitchen, an ordering counter, and a long display of donuts, and that is it. I felt bad for the poor workers at Milk Do since they have no room to move around. Milk Do is a take-out place only. No eating in. As for the donuts, here are all the flavors, all cream filled of course:
Cream, Custard, Whip Cream, Anbutter, Pistachio, Tiramisu, Earl Grey, Chocolate Nuts, and Sweet Potato Maple.
I decided to take three donuts home for our after-dinner dessert. I was given a box with a cooling pack in it and was sent on my way. Fast, easy, and convenient.
When my wife got home from work, we ate some Costco chicken, and then decided to try our new cream filled donuts.

Cream Filled

This was the first donut we tried, which was Milk Do's most popular donut. A regular cream filled donut with powdered sugar on top. I am not going to get into this donut too much because I thought it was OK. The cream was tasty, but the actual dough of the donut was a bit rubbery. The cream was this special Hokkaido made cream or something like that. Even though the cream was great, the rest of the donut just didn't live up to my expectations.

Tiramisu Cream Filled

Now this donut was awesome! It was full of delicious tiramisu flavored cream with coffee flavored powder on top. It was like eating a miny tiramisu for dessert. My wife is a huge lover of tiramisu, so she loved this donut. This was her favorite out of the three donuts I brought home. I can't agree with her on that, but this was an excellent donut. It didn't have a strong coffee taste, and it wasn't too sweet, which is great for a tiramisu-flavored donut. The dough of the donut was a lot softer and tastier than the first donut we had. I wouldn't mind ordering this donut again. I am pretty sure my wife is already planning on getting the tiramisu cream filled donut again soon.

Pistachio Cream Filled

This was the last and the best donut of the three, in my opinion. The pistachio cream filled donut. The donut came with regular sugar all around the donut and a small pistachio nut on top. I took a bite out of this donut and automatically loved it. The pistachio cream was fresh and had a very strong taste of pistachios, while the soft and delicious dough with sugar on it brought the sweetness level to a new high. It was a tidal wave of sweet and pistachio nuts that rocked my tastebuds. My wife agreed that the pistachio donut was good, but as I said before, she was a tiramisu fan.

Milk Do, you do some pretty good cream filled donuts. I like that you have a lot of different options and that your cream is tasty and fresh. Maybe work on your number one cream donut a bit more though.

So if you are around the Trail Supermarket in Tsukuba and are craving some cream filled donuts, why not give Milk Do Dore Iku a chance? Who knows? You might see us there. My wife will be ordering the tiramisu while I try some new flavors and grab my lovely pistachio cream filled donut.
Enjoy!
