Cheesecake, cheese tarts, cheese soft serve ice cream, cheese shakes. Is this a dream? A place where all my cheese dessert fantasies can come true? I am happy to say that it is not a dream. There is a place in Tsukuba that has cheese desserts that you didn't even think of. It also has one cheese dessert that is only available for the rest of this month and that you can make dance. This cheese dessert paradise is called With Cheese, and you need to check it out.

With Cheese

With Cheese is located in the Akatsuka area of Tsukuba. I believe it is on the same street that UWorld is on. We decided to check this place out for two reasons. One, I love cheese. Two, we had seen that With Cheese had a limited time special dessert available until the end of the month. My wife had claimed with great determination that we would be trying that cute looking dessert as soon as possible. That is how we ended up at With Cheese.

Inside

From the outside, With Cheese looks like a big family restaurant but it isn't that big inside. When you walk inside, you are greeted by a glass display case full of cheese sweets and desserts. You can get your cheese dessert to go or have it at With Cheese's cafe area.

The Cafe Menu

If you feel like trying With Cheese's ice cream, parfait, or drinkable cheesecake (yes, that is what it says on the menu), that is what this menu is for. Unfortunately, the menu is only in Japanese but don't worry, I will translate.

First off, is the drinkable cheesecake. The three drinks available are plain, tiramisu, and strawberry. Under that is coffee and ice tea. Next to the drinkable cheesecakes is the soft serve ice cream. The flavors are Ibaraki strawberry soft serve, rare strawberry mix, and rare strawberry short (short cake). Under that, are the parfaits. The flavors are pudding parfait and strawberry and cheese parfait. You order your dessert at the cashier and then choose a table to sit at while waiting for your order.

The Cafe Area

The cafe area is a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. There are only three tables with four chairs at each table. I am guessing that on the weekend, there may be nowhere to sit.

We went a bit overboard at With Cheese. We ordered a drinkable cheesecake, a cheese parfait, and the special dessert.

Drinkable Cheesecake Tiramisu

The drinkable cheesecake tiramisu is, as I am sure you have already guessed, thick. Not super thick, but thick. It comes with some type of nuts on top and coffee jelly at the bottom. I liked the overall drink but I wasn't too thrilled with the coffee jelly. It had a strong coffee taste to it, which I love when I drink coffee, but it really didn't do anything to enhance the tiramisu cheesecake flavor of the drink. It was just there. Like a lazy roommate that doesn't help with the chores. I didn't dislike the tiramisu but it wasn't my favorite of what we tried that day.

Pudding Parfait

Next, was the pudding parfait. See that soft serve ice cream on top. It is heavenly. A perfect mixture of a light cheese with vanilla. When I tried it, I got a nice explosion of cheese with that cold sweetness of vanilla. It was fantastic. Then I dug a bit deeper and got some of the pudding in the middle. I tried the pudding and it felt like someone threw a huge piece of cheese at my face. It had a very strong cheese flavor that put me in shock. The ice cream had this soft comforting flavor of cheese, and the pudding took you down with its surprising strong cheese flavor. I didn't mind it though. I happily got a spoonful of those different levels of cheeses and enjoyed it.

Cheese Cat Pudding

Now, we get to the limited supply and limited time special dessert. The Cheese Cat Pudding. This pudding comes with either strawberry jam or blueberry jam. My wife asked which one we should try and I answered both. She then told me that we would probably have to choose one because With Cheese only makes ten of these desserts in the morning, and another ten in the late afternoon. If you come to the store after the twenty are sold, you are out of luck. So my wife said we would pick one. I then reminded her that this dessert was only available until February 29th. That's when all the sympathy for future customers disappeared and she ordered both the strawberry and blueberry jam cheese cat pudding herself.

At the beginning of this post, I wrote you can make this dessert dance. I am sure some of you thought that I had finally lost my mind, but you CAN make this dessert dance. Check out my Instagram page to see the blueberry jam cheese cat pudding get down with some K-Pop. My wife had a lot of fun seeing those two cheese cat puddings move around. After we had our fun, we dug our spoons into the cute looking cat and tried a spoonful. If you order the cheese cat, I think you should definitely get the blueberry jam option. The strawberry jam isn't bad but it is way too light. The cheese cat itself was amazing. It had a light cheese flavor with an amazing texture that just danced all around your tongue. It was delicious and a lot of fun to eat.

With Cheese was a great experience and a very tasty dessert stop on our busy Tuesday evening. We got to try a drinkable cheesecake, a delicious parfait, and a dancing cheese cat pudding that was incredible. We plan on going back to With Cheese because we still need to try their cheesecakes. I don't think we will make it back to With Cheese before February 29th unfortunately. But you can! Don't miss your chance to check out that dancing cheese cat!

So if you are looking for some sweets or dessert that involves some tasty cheese and are in Tsukuba, why not give With Cheese a chance? Who knows, you might see us there, me with a parfait and my wife happily eating a cheesecake.

Enjoy!
