Burger Month continues! This week, I am not talking about a burger restaurant. I am talking about a burger food truck. A food truck that does excellent burgers, has a nice guy running the truck, and has an interesting but weird mascot. I am talking about Cheddar Boyz.

Cheddar Boyz

Cheddar Boyz is a burger food truck that mainly travels around Moriya and Tsukubamirai. You can spot Cheddar Boyz from a kilometer away since it is a bright yellow food truck with an interesting looking bear as a mascot.

Unfortunately, both times I have run into Cheddar Boyz was a solo adventure. My wife was always working when I bought a burger from this food truck. The first time I found Cheddar Boyz was at an event in Oshimzu Park close to Tsukuba station. I saw a bright yellow food truck with the word cheddar on it. That is all it took for me to head straight for the truck. What surprised me about the food truck was how big the inside was. It looked like it had a full kitchen inside. There was a fryer for fries and a grilling station for burgers. I checked out the menu and couldn't wait to try what Cheddar Boyz had to offer.

The Menu

I have good news and bad news about the regular menu for my fellow English speakers. The good news is the burgers are listed in English. The bad news is what's in the burger is listed in Japanese. But with the pictures and the English burger names, it is pretty self explanatory.

The Bacon Cheeseburger

That day in Oshimizu Park, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. The burger chef gave me a number and I waited as he cooked my burger.

After a few minutes, he called out my number and I grabbed my bacon cheeseburger. It looked glorious. It brought one beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onions, bacon (not crispy bacon which is too bad), and a surprisingly big slice of dill pickle. It also brought melted cheese. Can you guess what kind of cheese?

After admiring my burger, I took my first bite and was in heaven. The buns were perfect, the melted cheddar cheese was fantastic, and the pickle was actually a good fit for the whole burger. The beef patty was delicious but there was way too much black pepper in it. It wasn't a deal breaker but the black pepper overpowered the taste of the grilled patty a little. I loved my bacon cheeseburger and vowed I would have Cheddar Boyz again.

Special Menu

Three months later, I found myself standing in front of that yellow food truck, talking to the friendly owner and wondering what burger I was going to order.

This time, Cheddar Boyz was parked in the parking lot of a cake shop in Moriya called Maple. I looked at the regular menu but then the special menu caught my eye.

I decided to order the special burger of the day, the Hula Girl. The Hula Girl brought everything that the standard burger brought on the regular menu, but it also added bacon, pineapple, and BBQ sauce. I decided to also add an order of cheddar cheese.

The Hula Girl

That cold February Saturday afternoon was a rainy one. I would have loved to have had my burger at the counter of the food truck but I decided to have it inside of my warm car. The Hula Girl was extremely tasty. The pineapple with the bacon was a winning mix and the cheddar enhanced that mix ten fold. The beef patty was also perfect. It didn't have that overabundance of black pepper like last time. Oh! The bacon was crispier! Not American crispy mind you, but deliciously crispy. This burger was an amazing ray of sunshine in a depressing cold rainy afternoon. Cheddar Boyz, you lifted my spirits that day and I deeply thank you for that. You are my burger hero.

I hope to run into the Cheddar Boyz again. Either down in Moriya, or maybe the owner will come up to a Tsukuba event or something. I hope they do. I need to try their other burgers and I have yet to try their fries. I would also love for my other fellow Ibarakians to try those amazing cheddar burgers.

So if you are at an event in either Moriya or Tsukubamirai and see a bright yellow food truck with an interesting looking bear on it for a mascot. Then you, my friend, have found Cheddar Boyz. Make sure to grab a tasty cheese burger from them. Who knows, you might see me there, wondering what special burger is on the menu and finally trying the fries.

Enjoy!

A Diglet Appeared!

A little extra info for you. I wrote that Cheddar Boyz was selling burgers at a place called Maple in Moriya City. Maple is a cake shop and they sell something amazing. If you love Pokemon, you have to try their chocolate Diglet. Look at how cute it looks! I grabbed the last Diglet while I was waiting for my burger to cook. I brought it home and tried it with my wife. The outside is a hard chocolate shell and the inside is filled with heavenly chocolate cream. Biting into that Diglet was so satisfying. I loved this little dessert and am 100% sure I will be getting it again. I hope you can try it too.
